Vintage Green Glass Bottle, 1945

Green bottles came into us in Calabria at the end of WWII when it was difficult to find brown glass bottles for producing homemade beer. Later green bottles were popular with Calabria wine makers as a way to preserve the taste of the wine and prevent oxidation. Seventy years ago this bottle held homemade wine, made from the grapes in the Calabrian hills.
